Freediving Level 1

The first course with open water dives. Do you also want to practice this great sport at the lake or in the sea?

Then Freediver Level 1 is the right choice!

Course description:

We will give you a detailed briefing so that you feel confident in the theory that is important for understanding Freediving. At SSI you can familiarise yourself with the theory of freediving at home in a relaxed manner and then deepen this with your freediving instructor.

We explain the correct breathing technique and guide you over the limits of your breathing as you have known it up to now. In a relaxation session you will experience your breathing reflex and learn to delay it. You will learn to breathe again and how to observe and delay the breathing reflex.

In practice we will go into the free diving equipment and how to use it. We show you the correct, effort-saving diving technique and how to move effortlessly through the water with your fins. You will get to know neutral buoyancy as a means of free diving. The exercises of the Pool Freediver will later help you to move deeper and further under water.

You will also learn about safety procedures and how to end a freedive safely after surfacing.

Entitlements after the course:

If you have completed the Freediver Level 1 programme you can then continue with Freediver Level 2. The Level 1 course is a prerequisite for further Freediver courses.

You will be allowed to dive with your freediving partner to a depth appropriate to your certification and experience.

Please note: Teenagers and children may only free dive with a certified adult or professional.

Process

Theory Session: Before we go into the water, we explain the most important rules of free diving. Why do you have to do a pressure balance? What is a Black Out and is a Loss of Motor Control. Why do I have to practice certain breathing techniques after surfacing? How can I suppress the breathing reflex within safe limits? And much more.

Pool session: In the water you will learn the correct diving technique, the correct use of fins, you will learn to balance yourself neutrally and how to deal with the breathing reflex under water. You will have plenty of time to practise and learn the correct techniques.

Open water dives: With our minibus we will go together to the reservoir here in Luxembourg or to the lakes in the region. This can be done together during our training weekends or, after consultation with you and your instructor, it can be flexible according to your schedule.

During the open water dives we will take you to a depth of 20 meters.
